REFUGE

PSALM 91:1-2

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

Mary and Joseph found shelter in Bethlehem. It says in the Bible that when Jesus was born he was laid in a manger, as there was no room for them in the inn. It is likely that this place was the stable, or where the animals were fed and stayed. It wasn’t glamorous, and probably wasn’t the most comfortable or clean place to be, but it was shelter. It was a place for them to rest and for Mary to give birth.

There are so many people around the world who have had to flee the homes. This might be due to war, or persecution, or famine. There are many reasons why people have to up and leave. Sometimes without much warning. Here in Crawley, many of the hotels are full of vulnerable migrants, each with a story, and a home that they have left behind.

Let’s pray:
Almighty God, thank you that in you we can find refuge and strength. We pray for all those around the world who have had to leave their homes, whatever the reasons. We pray that you will help them find shelter and provide for their basic needs. We ask that you will help us to be a loving and welcoming community to those who need it. We thank you for things like ‘Bridge the Gap’ football, and all the agencies that work with refugees. Will you bless them in their work. In Jesus name, Amen.
